FITNESS TIPS WITH KRISTEN

If you have been following my instagram for awhile now you probably know that I love working out with Kristen @pizzandpilates. Kristen is extremely knowledgeable and such an amazing instructor. I always look so forward to our weekly pilates class, and get so many DMs asking about our workout videos.

Today I asked Kristen to share her top 3 fitness tips and favorite workout essentials…

1.

Drink mostly water.  Divide your weight by 2 and aim to drink at least that many ounces daily.  I’m all about treating myself to a latte, kombucha or my favorite green juice, but make sure that the majority of what you are consuming is water.

Listen to your body. Our body is talking to us all of the time.  We are often taught to ignore those messages, and “push through it”.  If your body is screaming with exhaustion, it doesn’t mean you have to just lay on the couch.  Consider editing your back-to-back workout classes to a casual walk or restorative yoga class. Eat when you are hungry, drink when you are thirsty. This is all really simple stuff, but when we turn off the conversation between our body and our brain, we can become overloaded and have trouble finding balance.  If you start to recognize your body’s cues for when you are tired/hungry/need to get some exercise, you’ll do a better job of avoiding meltdowns.

Make an effort to be more present and unplug (from your phone).  I find this is especially important when I’m active. If I go on a walk to get a little bit of exercise, and spend the entire time on my phone, I don’t get a great mental health boost.  Even good excuses, like calling a friend to catch up, can take away from the mind body connection that we feel when we move. Take inventory. How is your breath? How is your posture? Can you move with more awareness? Try focusing your brain energy on what you are doing.  Leave your phone at home and enjoy the fresh air.
